- GREETINGS
THE
DAY OF THE LORD
We must take into account that God is
going to plunge this world into judgment in the day of the Lord,
and all events are hastening toward that day and setting the
stage for it.
"The day of the Lord is a day when
God will be exalted and man humbled" (Isaiah 2:10). "It
is a day when the rebellion of the nations will be judged by
terrible judgments" (Isaiah 13:6).
"For the day of the LORD of hosts
shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every
one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:" (Isaiah
2:12)
"Howl ye; for the day of the LORD
is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty."
(Isaiah 13:6)
"Therefore I will shake the heavens,
and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of
the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger."
(Isaiah 13:13)
"For it is the day of the LORD'S
vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of
Zion." (Isaiah 34:8)
"For this is the day of the Lord
GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his
adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate
and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath
a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. (Jeremiah
46:10)
"Neither their silver nor their
gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath;
but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy:
for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell
in the land." (Zephaniah 1:18)
"Because the law worketh wrath:
for where no law is, there is no transgression." (Romans
4:15)
Speaking of Jesus Christ, "Much
more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved
from wrath through him." Romans 5:9
"And to wait for his Son from heaven,
whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivered us from
the wrath to come." (1 Thessalonians 1:10)
"For the day is near, even the day
of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the
heathen." (Ezekiel 30:3)
"Alas for the day! for the day of
the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall
it come." (Joel 1:15)
"The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day
of the LORD come." (Joel 2:31)
"Woe unto you that desire the day
of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is
darkness, and not light." (Amos 5:18)
"For the day of the LORD is near
upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto
thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head." (Obadiah
1:15)
"Behold, the day of the LORD cometh,
and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee." (Zechariah
14:1)
"For yourselves know perfectly that
the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night."
(1 Thessalonians 5:2)
It is a day when the antichrist, the
man of sin, Satan’s man, will sit on the throne of the earth
for a brief time (Revelation 13).
It is a day when God will bring Israel
to national conversion through repentance and faith in Christ.
"The day of the Lord is the day
of Jacob’s trouble, but he will be saved out of it "(Jeremiah
30:7).
Today is not the day of the Lord. It
will follow the catching away of church age believers (1 Thessalonians
4:13).
Note the connection between the catching
away of 1 Thessalonians 13-18 and the day of the Lord following
in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3.)
The day of the Lord will come upon the
lost world like a thief, because the world is not watching; but
God’s people know the times and the seasons, they believe
God’s prophecies, and they are looking for fulfillment. |
